Harrow Sling Library Terms and Conditions of Hire
1. Loan form
a. Your personal details will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988, and will only be used to contact you in relation to your library loan, or with information which is relevant to your use of the sling library.
2. Loan cost and duration
a. Each carrier loan costs £10 per month, with the option of free exchanges within that month. Stretchy hire is £20 for 3 months. If you wish to exchange for a non-stretchy carrier after 2 months, a new hire fee of £10 will apply.
3. Payment and deposit
a. Payment will be taken by debit/credit card, the details of which will be stored in encrypted form. In case of loss or damage, the full cost of a replacement will be charged to the card. This is instead of taking a deposit. The value of each sling is listed for your reference at http://harrowslinglibrary.myturn.com
4. Late returns
a. Overdue carriers will automatically be renewed for another month. In case of exceptional circumstances please contact harrowslings@gmail.com.
b. If you are unable to return the carrier by the agreed date due to Library staff illness or holidays, we will get in contact via email to let you know where you can return the carrier instead.
5. Returning Carriers
a. Returns should be made at the Library Session on the date given on your email receipt, or if this is not possible, at Hannah’s house (arrangements can be made for this via harrowslings@gmail.com).
b. All carriers are checked prior to lending to ensure they are in good condition and working order.
c. It is the borrower’s responsibility to check the carrier before each use. Check all buckles, hems and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, cracks or holes. If any damage is discovered, please stop using the carrier immediately and contact us.
6. Safe Use of the Carrier
a. All carriers are provided with a TICKS leaflet with instructions for safe use as part of the welcome pack, as well as an additional leaflet covering further safety elements such as temperature whilst in the sling, and appropriate sling use. It is the borrower’s responsibility to ensure they collect and leave with a welcome pack.
b. The borrower must read the safety information, and observe the recommended instructional videos prior to the use of the carrier. Carriers must only be used in accordance with the instructions given.
c. All carriers are extremely safe when used properly; misuse can cause injury to yourself or your child. It is the borrower’s responsibility to ensure that the carrier is used correctly and the child is safe at all times. The Harrow Sling Library cannot be held responsible for any accident that results in injury or death while the carrier is in your care.
d. We suggest that after familiarising yourself with the instructions given you then practice using the carrier with a doll/teddy/cushion or pillow so that you get used to the tying/fastening/adjusting methods.
e. Always ensure that you sit your child correctly in the carrier and check any knots, buckles and webbing regularly in case of loosening.
f. If you feel any pain while carrying your child, change the carry position or remove the carrier.
g. If you are unsure about the use of the carrier or have any questions then please contact us and we will endeavour to assist you.
7. Care of Carriers
a. Under no circumstances is it permitted to smoke while using the carrier. Please inform us if you are a smoker, or if there is a smoker in your home so that we may carefully launder the carrier upon return. Smoking poses an increased risk of cot death in babies; these risks have also been linked to babies having close contact with smoke contaminated clothing or objects.
b. If you need to wash the carrier then please do so according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Please use a low temperature and low spin cycle, and a liquid detergent such as Ecover.
c. We cannot guarantee there will be no marks or hairs on carriers that we lend. Carriers are spot cleaned and only laundered when necessary as freshly washed carriers are often not as soft and flexible.
d. Please keep carriers away from animals to minimise hair deposits. Should you be allergic to animal hairs, please request a freshly laundered carrier.
e. Food and posset marks are expected when carrying children, however please keep the sling away from anything that may cause permanent stains (oil, paint, pens etc.) or damage (scissors, Velcro, keys etc.) Any damages beyond normal wear and tear may be deducted from your deposit.
f. All carriers, instructions and accessories remain the property of the Harrow Sling Library at all times and all loans are subject to availability and discretion.
8. Refunds
We do not offer refunds. You may exchange your sling or carrier during your hire period at an organised sling library session.
